I talk to them all the time and it drives my kids crazy! They think it's embarrassing not too mention I've always taught them to never talk to strangers,

Yeah for sure. The whole point of going out and being social is to meet new people. But I also talk to strangers in the supermarket/ park/ on the street etc etc.
I have never made friends with a total random stranger though. Dated a few...

On here, sometimes; but I do tend to get strangers approaching me on the street, don't know why

if they live in my town since my town is a small, rich, preppy, 1square mile town. everyone knows practically everyone
