A Belgian engineer, J.J. Etienne Lenoir, built the first automobile, with an internal combustion engine (Gasoline, not steam), in Paris, France in May of 1862. Czar Alexander of Russia, bought one of these machines, and drove it around in St Petersberg.

it was a Ford Model-T, from Henry Ford in 1886. The first self propelled vehicle anyway, the first actual vehicle was a horse and buggy.

FYI the model t appeared in 1909. henry ford's quadracycle was built in 1896

believe it or not, in the year 1672 a Jesuit Missionary to China may have built the first steam-powered car.
