He writes: I am Mr. Joseph Poon director of operations of the Hang Seng Bank Ltd, branch, central Hong Kong. I have an obscure business proposal for you.
Before the U.S and Iraqi war,our client Muhannad al-Hakim a Merchant made a fixed deposit of 44.5mUSD,for 18months.Upon maturity several notices were sent to him, during and after the war which began in 2003.We later found out that my client, his wife and two sons had been killed during the war. What bothers me most is that according to the laws of my country, at the expiration of 4yrs the funds will revert to the ownership of the Hong Kong Government,if nobody applies to claim it. I want you to provide me with your Full Names, phone/fax and residential address and I shall provide you with more details on this operation.

Is there any way to report things like this? I'm tired of just ignoring them. They never really go away. It is very annoying. How do they get my address and has anyone actually fell for something like this?

If you get spam email that you think is deceptive, forward it to spam@uce.gov. The FTC uses the spam stored in this database to pursue law enforcement actions against people who send deceptive email.

you really can't
most of that type of email is uses faked email headers so it's pretty much untraceable
though the majority of it is usually foreign born or US born from spamming operations
best thing would be to get another email address ( actually get 2 )
use it only for your banking, personal and nothing else, the second like a yahoo ro hotmail is for junk and email "verification" that some sites require
also running IE explorer is a huge risk compared to running Firefox, the same goes for your meail client, Outlook is not secure compared to Thunderbird. Once you email address is out there it out there and the only way is to use Thunderbird with it spam filters ( it learns as you go ) and learn to live with it. Also never Opt Out of anything!! Opting out only confirms an email address.

I just report them via http://www.spamcop.net - make sure you also cc a copy via regular e-mail to spam@uce.gov (making sure to include the header as well as the body).
