It takes about a year or so, depending on how devoted you are and how much time you spend practicing, to learn the basics. From there on, it's pretty much up to you. But, if you are truly a pianist, a lifetime of learning and discovery, and most of all a lifetime of music is ahead of you.

One can learn to play the piano in a couple years. On the other hand, to make music takes a lifetime!
