Why did the Constitution set the term for members of the House of Representatives at 2 years and the term for members of the Senate at 6 years? Has the difference in the length of term had any impact on the two Houses? If so, what and why? Should any changes be made in the term of either the senators or the representatives?

The shorter, 2 year term for a member of the House of Representatives, makes the member more responsive to the wishes of the people. The elections come around pretty quick. These folks have to be aware that they are in jeopardy of losing their jobs if they don't represent as they were elected to do.

Senators, with a longer, 6 year term can afford to pay attention to the necessary business of government without having to worry so much about their next term, that is up until the last minute. Then they have to again become responsive to the states they represent.

This situation was designed and intended by the founders to be this way. We don't need to change it, except by being sure to vote out the incumbent when the time comes. Don't let anybody build a career on politics.
