JUST FOR THE RECORD: i am completley impartial and indifferent to the matter, i am mereley asking. latley, i've heard many emerging opinions that the haulocost never really happened...or at least not in the way it's being told, or the way Steven Spielberg tries to convey it...
people who say so, what are they basing their conclusion on?

guys, my question actually is: the people who are claiming it DID NOT happen, what are they basing this upon? only speculation, or scientific evidence and tangible proof?
and, no offense, but they didn't have photoshop back then :s

Well considering my grandparents were from WWII era and they grew up in Germany and one was forced to be a Hitler youth i can tell you that it did happen. My grandfather told me stories of how is father would tell him not to trust his SS commanders in the youth. Also my great grandfather would hide Jewish residents of the small town they lived in at the power plant where he worked. My grandmother was also growing up at the time in a town on the north sea, now they had a navy base there and she used to see truckloads of people being shipped into a small prison camp and then exported out of there, most likely to concentration camps. Now neither of my grandparents hate jews nor did they or most of their family buy into the Nazi ideals, nor did they ever see an actual concentration camp, but it sickens them to this day to see that the country from which they came from had come from commited such horrific acts.
Now as for the people who don't believe it happened, i don't know. My grandfather had a business partner when he moved here to the US and his partner was also german and served in the military at the time. He didn't believe it happened because he never saw it and he felt he would have seen it since he was in the german army at the time of the war. And who knows he may have seen it but just would rather block it out and lie to himself saying it was not true, i don't know.

There have always been those who believe the Holocaust never existed, or, at the very least, that the events did not unfold in the way put forth by historians and scholars. However, there are mountains of evidence to back up that the Holocaust did, indeed, take place, as well as the reasons behind the attempted fulfilment of the Final Solution to the Jewish Question.
It is true that the true number of victims exterminated during this dark time is under question, primarily because Nazi camp administrators did a great job at destroying many (although not all, by far) camp records. There is archived evidence, first-hand witness and victim accounts, Nazi records, video recordings of camp liberations (like "Triumph of the Will"), just to name a few sources of evidence. Below is a link to the documentary Frontline: "Memory of the Camps", which shows footage of various camps being liberated.
There have been some "historians" that have set out to disprove the Holocaust, though these writers are guilty of shoddy investigating and research, at best. Unfortunately, recent historians have come to use the "evidence" cited by these "scholars," perpetuating the belief that the Holocaust did not occur.
The primary problem with archival records on the Holocaust is the number of people massacred during the Final Solution. However, this does not disprove the fact that the Holocaust did occur.
On the note of Steven Spielberg, his film "Schindler's List" is very historically accurate. In fact, there are only a few parts of that movie that are not up to par. For example, in many ways Oskar Schindler was both more of a scoundrel and a saint than the film shows. There are a few other examples, but you get the idea.

The holocaust deniers, as they're called, are a relatively recent phenomenon--even the German government admits to the camps, the slaughter, etc., and they have many of the records to prove it (many more as scattered in libraries and museums around the world). Keep in mind that any fact-based film such as SCHINDLER'S LIST will take a few liberties to tell the story better, but that doesn't equate to the Holocaust never existing. Think about it this way--since GONE WITH THE WIND is fictional, does that mean the Civil War never took place, or Atlanta was never burned, or slavery never existed? With the passing of time, we are losing those few survivors of the camps (and WWII, for that matter), but we will always have the historical record.
Here are some sites that will go into more detail on the issue:

You know not only did the Holocaust happen, most people in the west don't realize that it was just the tip of the iceberg. We didn't know because of the Soviet Union being such a closed society, but Hitler did the same to many countries, one of the major ones was Ukraine, where the amount of people that suffered and died there make the Holocaust seem small.

You truly are a dumb ***. Please sterilize yourself for the sake of the gene pool. For the record genocide in WWII did happen and the only reason why people are trying to rewrite history is that more and more of the veterans who liberated the camps along with many of those who where kept at the camps are dying. With those deaths a great deal of the history is gone forever. SO the question is how do you explain the deaths of around 11 million people (thats an estimated six million Jewish with another six to seven million gypsies, homosexuals, infirm, elderly and otherwise "unfit" people) who disappeared? Do you think this is the worlds greatest magic trick and with a sweep of the hand they will suddenly reappear? There is evidence of the holocaust, even records of the atrocities committed that were kept by the people who committed them. In addition there is to this day millions if not billions of dollars in art and personal belongings including gold sitting around in vaults and caves because their owners cannot be found. But eh who am I to argue, you and the rest of the dumb asses will argue the world is flat and all who dare to sail west will fall of the earth.

Yes.
I don't think you can take everything you're told for granted, but in my opinion there's no question that the holocaust did happen.
There's simply nothing that makes me suspicious that it didn't. Many very intelligent people who I respect think it's the truth. In fact, I've never heard of anyone I respected who didn't. There's overwhelming evidence.
But don't take my word for it if you really want to know. Learn more about the people who say it did or did not happen. Find out if you agree with their other views.

Yes, it really happened. My Godfather was a prisoner of war in one of the camps. He was a normal sized man and 6' when he went in. He was under a hundred pounds when he was rescued after the war. The people who say it didn't happen are the anti-Semitics who have a lot to gain from discrediting the Holocaust.

Yea, they really happened. The camps are still there, I saw this thing on Oprah where a guy that was put in Aushwitz (a concentration camp) went back there with her. It was so sad. We also studied it in school and there are many records and pictures of it. So yes, it did happen.
