I'm 16 years old and I've only had sex once. He barely could get it in though, so obviously I'm still very tight. I want to go on birth control, but I know I have to get a pelvic exam or pap smear and I want to know if it will hurt. Be honest!

Some times it is a little painful..only the pap smear part.
Not really painful but rather uncomfortable...but it is over is seconds.

It is alot less painful than pushing out a child..look at it that way.

Yes planned parent hood may want to do a pap smear but it is fine...it will be over in a few seconds and youll be fine.

Around here planned parent hood quit doing paps...so calm down.

If you can have sex you can get a pap done!

I don't quite understand about your first time. You should be "tight" on your first time because you have a hymen that should be broken. However, sometimes girls have had there hymens slightly broken or completely broken by different things like bicycle accidents, horseback riding, etc.

Pap smears and pelvic exams are uncomfortable but do not really "hurt". Ask the doctor to explain to you what they are going to do before they do it. Most doctors are very gentle with young ladies.

I recommend you go to your pediatrician or a gynecologist. Both will be more sensitive to your needs. A lot of family practice doctors are good also.

If you want to go to a clinic try planned parenthood. They usually have a teen clinic and the doctors are use to helping young ladies like yourself.

Look up the site below to see if they have any information for you.

No a pelvic exam/pap smear doesn't hurt. Try to be as relaxed as possible to help avoid discomfort. Talk to your doctor and ask for an explanation of the procedure...the doctor or nurse should explain everything to you, but ask anyway so you'll know what's going to happen. You can also find information about this on Web MD if you want to research on your own.

It's an easy and quick procedure and nothing to be tense or worried about.

I have had 5 children and have had this done so many times. It is uncomfortable but the best advise I can give to you is when your on that table and they tell you to open your legs just try to relax. Don't tense up your muscles, and think about something else. Some doctors are not as gentle as others so this can also make a difference. But getting this done will be a necessity for you soon and has been lifesaving for many. Just part of being a woman, and being a woman is beautiful.

Tell the person doing the exam that you are still pretty tight. They have smaller (pediatric) tools they can use on you. It really doesn't hurt - just not particularly comfortable. So long as you bled when you lost your virginity, your hymen is broken and it shouldn't hurt to have an exam unless you just lost your virginity less than a week ago. Tell the person doing the exam about your concerns. That way, they can be extra careful. They have seen and heard it all. Nothing you can say to them should embarrass you.

Hey Chick. First of all you HAVE to get regular exams once you are sexually active! While I am on the subject MAKE SURE you get vaccinated for HPV. That is a new luxury out there and if you read up on that virus you would be shocked. It is SO easy to get SO many people have it and you can't get rid of it. Read up on it. And on other diseases. Some of them you aren't fully protected from EVEN WITH a condom! And lots of times there are no symptoms on a carrier and some you can't get rid of. Just make sure you educate yourself and don't let guys pressure you!
Now will it hurt...? No. Maybe uncomfortable a bit but not any more painful than when you had sex the first time. And you might be embarrassed, right? DON'T be. They are DOCTORS. That's what they are there for and have spent years of their lives studying to help people just like you and me and whoever requires their services. They see EVERYTHING. So they will not judge you or think anything about you that you might be worried about. Even if it is a male doctor. He CHOSE that field of medicine and he is there to help you. Do not think of your doctor as just any person - man or woman- think of them as a doctor. They think of you as a patient and just treat you. Not judge you.

It pinches a little and feels uncomfortable. I sometimes have a little cramping afterwords. Although I commend you for wanting to go on birth control, please consider using condoms as well to stop the threat of diseases. You also need to make sure you use condoms for the first month you are on the pill as it is not effective during the first cycle. Please be careful. Sex only lasts for a few moments but a baby and many STD's last a lifetime.

It can hurt - many women find it uncomfortable. The most pain I've had is for my first checkup after having a baby. My best advice is to relax - if your mind relaxes, your body will relax. That will make everything easier - including sex.

It is uncomfortable, mostly because of embarrasement. There will be some discomfort, but mostly people do not like to do it because of the nature of the exam.

If you are already having sex, you need to be tested. The doctor can use a smaller spectum if you are tight.

The exam will be over before you know it, it takes less than 5 minutes to do, and it doesn't hurt.
