So you think you've found your soul mate. How about if you get married for one year, and at the end of each year the contract can be renewed if both parties desire. That way if it's not working, you can go splitsville without the hard feelings.

No I don't agree with that. That's a total dis on marriage. It's just an excuse to get out during your first year, it's stupid. I say if you have a contract then you have no faith in yourself or your spouse.

yea ok, you can still go splitsville without the hard feelings and without some 1 year contract, but in all fairness, no matter what happens, when there is a split, someone does get hurt

your idea although would be good for landlords has no feasibility for a relationship since people are doing that anyway

I think if both of you are agreeing to this, you BOTH have doubts about marrying one another. If you think you found your soulmate, then you should go on with it without having a safety net like this.
Everybody's different, but I feel like this is just a "trial run" of a marriage. You'll try it for a year, whatever. Like I said, you probably have doubts about the relationship - instead of having this marriage contract, you might just want to live together for a year or something like that.

Marriage is not a contract between two people, it is the
love bonding of the two, therefore it should last forever
as long as both parties are alive. Love, responsibility,
committment, are what keeps a marriage togeather. A
yearly contract would not work as marriage is total
committment to one another for an unlimited time frame.

No I do not feel this is a good idea at all. To me why get married at all if you do not plan on being together for a life time. Splitsville should not even be an option. JMHO

That's a terribe idea.

For one thing, what happened to commitment? Through thick and thin? Until death do you part?

For another, the first few years of marriage are HARD. You have to work to make it a good marriage. You have to get used to sharing everything with another person. It takes commitment and TIME!

Giving them a get out of jail free card just encourages people to be selfish and not try to make things work just because their marriage is not 100% picture perfect right away.

Actually in Pagan marriage cermonies (known as handfasting) you actually do get handfasted for a year and one day. After which time you can go your seperate ways or agree to make your committment more long term.

I think it's a great idea.

all relationships go through good and bad times. doesnt mean that after a year, you can just quit and move on. you have to work out your problems. so no its not a good idea.

nope, isn't that what an engagement is for? Just think, that's like entering a marriage already worried about what if it doesn't work, it's undermining the marriage, so I don't think that will work. Either you know you are compatible and make a good couple or you don't, and if you aren't sure, then date longer, get pre-marital counseling or move on.

Pre-nep is about the same thing..... and in my book anything other than just the lic. is a mockery of marriage.... it is like saying you have NO faith that it will last and that if it does not then you shrug and holler *NEXT *!!!!! God bless
