I was wondering if anyone had any ideas of what I could do about it, it throbs? I did not sprain it but it feels and looks like there is water around it. I've been off of it for two days. I just don't know what else to do.

I talked to my doc today. They told me just to try to keep it elevated, but that there is really nothing they can do. My blood pressure is normal. I have not had headaches or anything. I was just wondering though should your heel hurt to??

Swelling or Edema (particularly of the hands or face)

A certain amount of swelling during pregnancy is normal. Edema is the accumulation of excess fluid. It is particularly concerning when it accumulates in the face (eyes) or hands. It is normal to have trouble wearing rings throughout pregnancy.

What you can do...

Find a picture of yourself just before pregnancy. Share it with your provider if you feel your face is getting excessively puffy. If the swelling in your extremities becomes severe, you may notice pitting edema (when you press your thumb into your skin, an indentation remains for a few seconds) or discoloration of your legs. If this happens, notify your provider, put your feet up every day (but avoid sitting for extended periods) and drink water to keep hydrated.

Best thing to do is to be seen by your dr. Preeclampsia is serious.

Poor girl. I also had the same problem when I was pregnant. It's miserable.

Firstly, make sure there's nothing medically wrong (high bp, etc.)

Then:
I would recommend having someone massage it for you (use lotion). Especially pay attention to the top of the foot at the ankle part. This will move the water away & it will flush out of your system. Drink plenty of water after your massage, as massaging rids your body of toxins.

If you don't know someone that can massage your feet, find a massuse. It will be worth every penny you spend.

Good luck!

Drink a lot of water to help flush your system. Elevate your feet to help the fluid drain. Notify your doctor - swelling in other areas is a problem sign. Lay off the salt. It will go away once you give birth - mine swelled really bad the last two weeks.

I would check with the doctor right away though because it could be toxemia, and that can effect your blood pressure too. Take care!! If you start to feel other symptoms of high blood pressure (dizziness, light headed etc) go to emergency right away. Actually it wouldn't be a bad idea to have your blood pressure checked tonight. 8.5 months is close to your due date, and you and your baby could need some doctor attention
Good luck

Swollen ankles are a normal part of pregnancy. You can try propping your feet up as much as possible. Also try to not eat salty foods because salt causes water retention. Be sure to mention this to your doctor on your next visit so they can monitor you for toxemia. But for the most part you just need to stay off your feet as much as possible.

You need to drink more water. If it doesn't go down in a day or two then you MUST see your doctor. It can be a sign of high blood pressure.

I would suggest calling your doctor - when I was pregnant, I developed edema, and it was exactly like what you are saying. My dr. prescribed wearing TED hose every day and it helped. However, because I had that, I also got pre-eclampsia. So call the Dr.!

Soaking it in a warm water bath would be the best idea. If that doesn't work, you could talk to your doctor if it bothers you that much.

See a physican. If you have fractures or broken bones, stay on a wheelchair so you don't fall and do any harm to the baby. That way, you can maintain your strength.
