I had an ultrasound done at 19w5d I was very eager to find out the sex for a number of reasons (most importantly I have a sick relative who is in her final days and I really wanted her to know before she goes) a previous u/s at 17w showed a small something between the legs but it was to soon to tell, we were convinced it was a boy along with everyone else around me. This last one the tech said "if I had to say based on what I see today I say girl but I won't guarantee that" I accept whatever we are having boy or girl but we were so convinced that it was a boy I had myself so amped up for a boy that I was a little disappointed is there a chance at this stage in pregnancy to not be able to tell for sure. The baby was in the perfect position to see what it was how can she not be sure???

My 2 sister in laws believe 100% in the wedding band and chain theory to determine sex every time they do it to me it comes up boy and are so convinced of it. They will not accept that they said it could be a girl. I may go for a 3D u/s will that be 100% if the baby is in the right position to see?

They can never say 100% because there is a high chance of error. No one knows for sure until the baby is born. So they're covering themselves, to keep from being sued when they're wrong. Pretty sure is about the best you're going to get.

Unfortunately, ultrasound's aren't that accurate for sex at an early stage. You may have to wait until you can get an amniocentisis at 4 months (if that is what you decide to do). Try not to get too excited about anything but I know that is easier said than done.
Do you think it would matter to your relative whether you have a boy or girl? If it would just tell them what you believe it is at the time right before they die or tell them the doctor says it is a very healthy baby and they haven't figured out the sex yet.

It just depends.
Everything may have not been formed.
And something may have been blocking it
Some times boys things are too small
And sometimes they say a girl if they can see a boys thing.
And some ultrasound techs are new and some may not be good at telling the sex of the baby.
I had a feeling i was having a girl and the lady said she thinks its a girl but she wasn't for sure and it was.
I think you should go with your instinct because most moms know what they are having without an ultrasound.

The baby can move, the umbilical cord can be in the way, the tech may not be sure, there are a million reasons. At my U/S the baby's bum was way off to one side and the tech could not say for sure. She thought it was a girl but without a second look she was not certain. There are plenty of stories of people being told one sex and the baby being born the opposite. The only exact way to know is with an amnio.

An Ultrasound is never 100% accurate. If they said it was a girl this time I would go with that. The thing between the legs could have been the umbilical cord. Hopefully you can have another ultrasound done but if the doc dosen't scedule it maybe try one of the 4d ultrasound places. I had it done and it was one of the most amazing things i ever did while I was pregnant.

hey congradulations on ur pregnancy but yes it is possiblefor them to not be able to give a positive confirmation on the sex of the baby but there is a old wives tale i was told and for all my friends and family it has worked maybe u shouldgive it a go what can it hurt.
well u need to put a ring on a chain like a necklace chain and then u hold it above ur belly and it will either swing in a loine or a circle if it swings around in a circle then that means a girl and if in a line then that means a boy
good luck and i hope it helps u to find out

There used to be a bunch of superstitions of what mom should or shouldn't eat to help influence what the gender of the child would be. Sometimes the technicians just can't tell. They almost got my gender wrong. It's all in black and white so it is a little difficult to be sure. If you're worried about names, you can pick names for both a boy and a girl, or some mom don't pick a name ahead of time at all, and the first time they see their child and hold it close, a name just pops into their head that just fits.

Ultrasounds are not an exact thing. The only absolute sure fire way to know is an amniocentisis or a chronic villi sample. Most of the time, its easier to see a little boy, but even little girls may look like there is something there because there little girl parts might be swollen from amniotic fluid.

They have been known to be wrong back in the days...but I suppose it can happen now,..I have had the same doctor with all my children and she said in the past 10 years there were none that were a big surprise because the tech was always right, but then again everyone makes mistakes...and yes 17 weeks is too early to tell.

I think there is a chance that it is not for sure I close family member of mine had an ultrasound done and the doctor had told her it was going to be a girl and it ended being a boy and the doctor was sure it was going to be a girl..so theres a chance..sometimes doctors dont see enough proof to be sure so instead of being embarrast at the end they dont assure it.
