Very first and most important thing is to clearly define who your potential customers are. Then find out where they are most likely to be found and finally, target those areas with your campaigns Everything else anyone tells you before this, is just so much confusing, extra slop, if you don't do these key3 things in that exact order.

I might add, if you are using on line websites to market, build your site low tech enough so the LOWEST common denominator visitor will have no problem with quick loading. For example, you don't want to lose a potential great customer, just because he has an old Windows 95 or 98 (version 1). that takes forever to load FANCY graphics are nice, but can mean lost sales.. What business are you in?

There is no such thing as the best marketing technique. Each marketing techniques have its pros and cons.

Bring all those techniques together, just like a jigsaw puzzle. When each of the techniques are able to fit nicely with each other, that's may be the best marketing technique.

Small Business Marketing Strategy: Target the up-and-coming search engines

While Google still rules the roost when it comes to Internet search engines, and Yahoo is firmly entrenched in second spot, a number of new start-ups are hoping to give them a run for their money. And a good small business marketing strategy would be to check them out and see how you can make them work for your site!

Some of the new up-and-comers include:

Powerset (www.powerset.com): A "natural language" search engine

Hakia (www.hakia.com): A "meaning-based" search engine

Wikia(www.wikia.com): A "community-based" search engine

ChaCha(www.chacha.com): A "social networking-based" search engine

Snap (www.snap.com): A search engine that offers visual previews

It's a smart small business marketing strategy to continue optimizing for the Google, Yahoo, and MSN search engines as they are by far and away the most popular -- but niche search engines could provide new opportunities to reach your market. Be sure to check them out!
