How many times have you been asked, "Write to your congressman about such and such"? But do you? How do you know if it just gets answered by interns with a form letter?

Write them a thoughtful and politically nuetral letter. Leave the questions open ended so they would have to respond with a personal letter. If the response if a form letter that doesn't address the concerns of your letter the chances are it was read by a staffer who may or may not forward it.

Most have a staff that reads letters & e-mails. They give him a condensed version of results like 280 opposed & 400 for.
If a letter is of particular interest the staff will give it to Congressmen to read.

I write, but I do it through other organizations who do tallies on issues, for or against. If they made copies of all the letters to congressmen, they'd be forever filing. They can also tell a hype or BS letter from the norm.

He/she won't read it. Staff will read it and if staff deems your letter as something that needs to be forwarded along to the congressman, it will be forwarded.
