My Roomate and I live in South Carolina where it doesn't get cold we just recived our gas bill for $500. Heat is the only thing gas powered and we rarley run it. Last month our bill was $150 for ten days of heating a gas leak was repaired but it did not help our bill. Its not estimated. Its a small apartment. Its "newly renovated" (by monkeys). Our landlord will not pay for the cost of last months gas leak which was caused by not putting a cap on the end of a gas pipe which had been disconnected. What do we do?

Unfortunatey, I believe you will have to take your landlord to small claims court to retrieve you money. I would also start looking for another apartment, if possible, because if he is a slum lord about this, what else will he try to gyp you out of. If you have a Rental Association in the city where you live, contact them, they may be able to do something for you.

Don't waste your time reporting him, there's nothing a code enforcement officer will do because you have High heat bills..(by the time he gets to you and checks out stuff, and if needed any changes it will be another two months of high bills) I suggest you move, and check into heating cost through the company before you move in..Its avalible to anyone to get a previous budget from last 2 years..That will give you an ideal on how much it will cost you in the coming months...

In my area if you talk to the gas people they will credit your bill if you have a leak, the water company does it too. Report him to who ever you have to report him to in your area. It isn't safe to have gas leaks. He could get a fine or something. You might even have to find another place to live.
