If Al Qaida exploded nuclear bomb in New York or London, how do you think we should respond?

I agree with Koolaid Boy, it's more like when not if. But I don't think American politics have anything to do with it. It doesn't matter if a democrat or republican president is in place, when they have the material and capability to set it off, that's when it will happen, maybe next year, maybe 20 years from now. They are set out at destroying the western way of life and spreading their form of Islam around the globe. They are determined to start their holy war.

My guess is that destroying Mecca and most of Pakistan would be the only appropriate response to one of our cities being nuked. Pakistan is a breeding ground for Islamic extremists and Mecca, well it would have to go as a symbolic response to such an attack. By the way, I am a democrat, but a moderate as are most Americans.

Nothing publically. Publicity is what terrorists thrive on. They won with 9/11 because the publicity caused a whole chain of events from the USA Tyranny Act to involvement in wars that radicalized many who would have stayed on the sidelines otherwise.

Behind the scenes, offer tons of money, immunity, and a new identity to perspective infiltrators then wipe out the cells one by one. A cover-up of sorts on what actually happened might be in order too. That would have been tough for 9/11; how do you explain two planes crashing at nearly the same time at the same place? Other things could be explained as accidents, though. The truth can come out after victory (very similar to wartime censorship).

I'm sure the us govt has a contingency plan. they follow these kinds of threats ,even though the democrats try to cut funding for everything or expose it in the new york times. we would respond militarily on a nuclear or conventional manner depending on how big the threat is ,IE do they have more. or can we take out the leadership with conventional methods. and avoid alot of collateral damage. the bush admin. does care about civilians, mostly AMERICAN civilians though. sleep good tonight there are people on it OK. don't worry your little head. gw is at the wheel.

Forget spreading democracy.
Forget defending other countries (except GB and Australia and Eastern European nations.)
Remove the word "Liberation" from American English.
Replace it with the word "Conquer."

Then do so. And give unruly people the same treatment that Abe Lincoln or FDR would have given them.

(If we're gonna get continually blamed for it, we might as well do it. The world would be better off being conquered by the US than by Russia, Red China, or Radical Islam.)

You mean when don't you. Six years ago I would have bet that some Muslim countries would begin to glow in the dark shortly there after. Today, I don't know what our responce would be. But I suspect will know shortly after the 08 elections. Right now I think GW still has them scared silly and he's got nothing to lose. What they going to do, impeach him? They're already trying to do that.

dont think the al qaida can smuggle nuke into this country right now. there are not able to have that much of nuke. if so the british or american will know. at least not in 20 years
