nothing really happens.

you might think it gets tarnished, but it doesn't. it sounds strange, but the way sterling silver gets tarnished is if it's left unworn. i have a charm bracelet that i haven't worn in years, and it got a little tinted. and guess what i used? tootepaste. yes, toothpaste. i thought it would never work, but i tried it. and now my bracelet looks brand spankin' new :)

Silver and gold are very unreactive metals, therefore when they get wet nothing should happen, it should not fade or turn your skin green or anything. The worst that could happen is if it's hard water and minerals are in it it could be dingy when the water dries. A little jewelry cleaner can get the dinginess off.

it gets tarnished but not usually on the first time. Sometimes if you wear it in the pool many times it will rust because of the chlorine.
