Its diet. Specifically: algae

Diet

Flamingos filter-feed on brine shrimp. Their oddly-shaped beaks are specially adapted to separate mud and silt from the food they consume, and are uniquely used upside-down. The filtering of food items is assisted by hairy structures called lamellae which line the mandibles, and the large rough-surfaced tongue. The colour of the flamingo does not arise, however, as a result of the shrimp it eats but rather the blue-green algae in its diet. (Despite the name "blue-green algae", as well as containing chlorophyll, is rich in blue and red pigments, so its 'blue' is often red, violet, brown and even orange).
