If 60% of the Iran population is under the age of 30 how does this factor lead the country into conflict with other nations? I'm not focusing JUST on the middle east! Has this rate ever happened to other countries country before? When? It seems to me this what create a tremenous cultural imbalance? An economic imbalance? Without an older generation it seems a country could forget it's origins What would the dangers be for this to happen to any population.

Most of them love the USA and don't support govt. policy. We will have to wait and see what happens for it is very unusual.

These demographics create more issues for the Iranian government than for other nations. In the age of the internet and satellite tv, this young generation is being flooded with images and concepts from the west. This generation is looking for blue jeans, rock music and the opportunity to interact with the opposite sex without intimidation and oppression from its government. Their leaders understand what threat this segment would pose if it were to ever find a catalyst for revolt. As such, the Iranian government is very careful in handling this generation, often showing more permissiveness in action, if not in rhetoric.

The only factor that can shake this generation out of its apathy and into alliance with a government it shares very little with ideologically is a heightened sense of nationalism. If the citizens perceive their country being threatened by force or rhetoric, their natural reaction would be to stand up to the threat inspite of the philosophical chasm between their belief systems and those of their leaders.

This rarely discussed nuance is the very reason the west needs to exercise finesse in dealing with Iran and its nuclear ambitions. Would we rather face an adversary with its citizens standing shoulder to shoulder in defiance or one where internal turmoil and external influence leaves it ripe for change?
