I just got a ampd mobile cell phone its a prepay plan and the phone number they gave me its lone distance for my family and friends to call me its the same area code as what we have in our area can someone explain this why its long distance also is there any hidden fees they charge you with and take off your minutes ?

The number is what you'd call local long distance. For home phones, there are numbers within your same area code which are outside your local calling area. Likely they chose a number from a metro area in your same area code but is long distance from where you live. This could have either been done by accident or was because Ampd doesn't have any numbers which are local to you. I'd call Ampd and let them know what local metro area you can call as a local call and see if they can get you a cell number that originates there. Otherwise, have them call you and hang up. Then when you see their number on the caller ID you can call them back since you have free long distance.

No hidden fees. You'll only get charged more if you call international or sign up for one of those silly free ringtone of the month clubs.

you don't need to put the firmware on it, Verizon can use Ampd mobile phones. it just takes 48-72 hours for the activation to occur once you sign up.
