Is he allergic to soy or milk? What formulas has he used? It's hard to recommend a formula because all babies are different. Most babies can tolerate any formula, but some babies cannot. If this baby has tried milk and soy formulas, he might need another formula that basically is predigested--Nutramigen or Alimentum. They are even more expensive than regular milk and soy based formulas.

I would talk with his doctor, or if you receive WIC, talk to a dietitian there. But, it is important to use the formula for about 10 days to see if it is working better.

Good luck!!! Finding a formula to work can be a trying experience. Hang in there!

It could very well be the switching of formulas that's making him have the runs as well as the rash. Your daughter should take him to his peditrican and tell him about the problem. He (or she) can take a look at the rash and test him for lactose intolerance.

They will know the best formula for an infant with his problems. I would not advise to keep switching formulas. It only makes the problem worse.

Well you should see a dr.
He might be allergic to milk and soy protiens.
With my daughter we first tried Similac, then Iso mil, then Enfamil and she couldn't take any of them...finally the dr put her on alimentum...she was allergic to milk and soy protiens...

But you will need to consult your dr first.
And you also need to give the formula time to work. When you keep chaning formulas and you don't give it at least a week or two to work then you really don't know if it is the formula or not.

It takes the baby time to gert used to a new formula...and changing the form can also cause these symptoms...and once baby gets used to it then it will work.

Just ask dr and give it time to work!

My kids were the same way. I ended up using Isomil (soy) formula, in the liquid concentrate form. The powder wasn't the same, and the "Ready to feed" was too expensive. It's really great.. you just mix it 1/2 and 1/2 with sterile water, warm it, and you're set.

Also, babies DO typically have soft stools... even the runs. It's important to keep their bottoms clean. For babies with sensitive tummies, it's not uncommon to also have sensitive skin.. so doubly important to change frequently and use "fragrence free" baby wipes!!

they say you have to be on a formula for 4 days before switching to another. also you didnt say what kinds of formula you guys have tried, such as enfamil/similac or soy or what, if you have tried all different kinds what about nutramigen made by enfamil. that formula is expensive about 25 a can ( 16oz or 1lb ) it is hypoallergenic. talk to your dr.

Im really sorry to hear that about ur grandson. My problem with my newborn was that once I changed the formula to enfamil with iron he was constipated. So his pediatrician decided for me to give him soy milk. Its easier to digest and has no allergies. but I did read in a magazine that enfamil has a formula for allergies. U might want to ask ur doctor. Please go soon babies are so delicate and it's sad to see them in pain or sick. best wishes and good luck!

He really needs only one formula. Call the doctor or take him to the health department and have them suggest one that is mild.
