If I hire a professional and have him to design something for me, how can I protect myself that he/she won't use the design to go against me? After he completes the design, gives me the blueprint and gets the $, is the design/bluepint mine?

You would have to have him sign an agreement that he can't give away trade secrets. This is what pharmaceutical companies do to protect their discovered compounds. If an employee goes elsewhere with what they did for that company, the legal actions would be severe.

If you are truly dealing with a true professional then you should be alright. But you could have him agree, in writing, to keep your design a trade secret, or have him sign a no competition agreement. Really, if your concerned then call an attorney.

If that person does this it is highly illegal then you have ground to sue for libel, A reputable professional has a reputation to up-hold.
