I agree....gross, wrong, illegal, and it can potentially cause mental problems in the children if there are children.

I think it's wrong & disgusting. I had a cousin who once tried to get me into the jacuzzi with him. He was naked & drunk. He was living at my parents' house since my parents had recently died & my siblings & I asked him to live there to use his handyman skills to help get the house prepared to sell. He called me to the house on Halloween under the false pretense of helping to give medication to my parents' dying cat. The concept of seeing my cousin naked repulsed me. The very idea that when he was later confronted with it by my older sisters, he saw nothing wrong with it & even said "she has a hot little body - what's the problem?" disgusts me further. It isn't supposed to happen. It's FAMILY. There IS no need for any reason or explanation - common sense says it is wrong. Those like my cousin, who believe otherwise, are engaging in incest or behaving with an incestuous attitude. By the way, I no longer speak to my cousin. My siblings & I have nothing to do with him anymore. That is how destructive such behavior can be. Fortunately, I was smart enough to get the heck out of there before he succeeded in his attempts.

In the old days they did marry cousins, and that was as close of family that was accepted. And I am sure cousins still marry today. I think if it is a second cousin or farther it is OK. But if first cousins do fall in love, they should have genetic couseling for any diseases that could appear in thier children. And if they find any, they should choose not to have children. Any closer than cousins is not exceptable in our society and would cause many social problems for the family

I think that the gene pool needs chlorine to stay healthy!!! Leaving easide moral or legal considerations, from a biologic point of view, inbreeding is a nice way to kill a specie.

Cheers,

It really depends on the situation and how closely related they are, but in general it doesn't bother me. I think brother to sister is a little weird but to each their own.

It's not illegal. Love is love. It depends how closely related you are, if you grew up together, and what culture/society you are from. I will only speak of cousin marriage, because it is the only type of marriage that is hotly debated.

"No European country prohibits marriage between first cousins. It is also legal throughout Canada and Mexico to marry your cousin. The U.S. is the only western country with cousin marriage restrictions."

Concerning inbreeding and deformities. "Children of non-related couples have a 2-3% risk of birth defects, as opposed to first cousins having a 4-6% risk. " Also to get the really bad deformities it must be continuous inbreeding. Just one generation isn't going to do it.

It isn't wrong, if two people love each other there shouldn't be anyone stopping them. Studies prove that if a person marries their first cousin there is a rise in complications and handicaps but if its a second cousin children come out normal, and only hereditary diseases might pass on such as asthma, diabetes, and heart conditions. Other than that i think it is a persons choice and not anyone elses. You might think it is weird but to others marrying their cousin is not wrong but its in the name of love
