Well, as someone mentioned, it depends on your definition of classic.
From the periods of English literature:
RENAISSANCE - Faustus by Marlowe, Julius Caesar by Shakespeare and the poems of Donne
RESTORATION - Robinson Crusoe by Defoe
ROMANTICISM (pre and post)- Wuthering Heights by Emily Bronte, Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen, Great Expectations by Dickens, The Picture of Dorian Gray by Oscar Wilde, Dracula by Bram Stoker.
20th CENTURY - Ulysses by James Joyce, Orlando by Virginia Woolf, and most of what they have already recommended here.
And if you're feeling adventurous, read Don Quixote, the classic of classics in Spanish literature.
