most successful without a doubt would be the Russell era Celtics...but I have reservations on whether they could have beat the 80s Lakers, they would not have matched up well anywhere on the court with them, also we know that there were unusually talented teams in the league at that time, docs 76ers, birds Celtics, the Pistons ...we are talking about teams that were all capable of winning championships(they all had too, not like the year in and year out noncompetitive teams MJs bulls beat on, these teams beat on Mikes bulls also then got old)...so although the Celtics got rings I pick the Lakers...

and Bill Walton off the bench. The front court was the best ever to play together and Dennis Johnson was a great defender. Ainge was fiesty as well.

no argument! the 1959-1966 boston celtics!!! most notably, the 1962-63 celtics starting five of : sam jones, tom heinsohn, bill russell, john havlicek & bob cousy with the exception of tom heinsohn as the only player not to be included in the 50 greatest nba legends
