Lie detector test results are usually inadmissible in court. However, a defense attorney I worked for would get his clients to take them. If the client passed, he would show the results to the prosecutor, sometimes the case would be dropped. The attorney also used it to indicate how well the client would do on the stand. If they failed, he would NEVER allow them to testify.

the results are not usually admissible in Court, no. However, sometimes people can be cleared by the police if they pass. Its totally discretionary.
