Why wont my 06 toyota tacoma shift out of park?

most vehicles have a switch on the brake pedal. the brake pedal must be depressed while shifting out of park. if this switch is bad it will not allow it to shift.

The brake release button is broken. There should be a reference to this and where the bypass is in the owners manual..

The gear just might be stuck. Try to move it around while the brake is on, but don't force it.
