With the recent form of players like Justine Henin and Amelie Mauresmo I think Maria's about to knocked off her perch.

At her most recent tournament, the Toray Pan Pacific Open, Maria had a lot of trouble with her serve, played mostly three-set matches, and retired with an injury. I think she'll surely remain among the top players. However, Henin and Mauresmo are playing brilliantly of late, as are several others around the Top 10. Along with Venus and Serena Williams's comebacks, it's hard to see her staying at No. 1 for more than a couple months.

Going by what I saw of her play in the Australian Open, which is the first leg of the Tennis Grand Slam, she will have to improve her consistency dramatically. If she does not do that, she will be ranked lower after the French Open and before Wimbledon.

Justine Henin maximum in all probability. If she hadn't skipped the Australian Open she would have in all probability retained the extensive sort one score. as long as Henin does extra effective at Indian Wells and Miami than she did final 365 days she will surpass Sharapova interior the scores.

u can be sure that Justine will kick sharapova's @ss in a short time..Justine DESERVES the no 1...didn't u see how she's playing???

Sharapova took advantage of Justine's Problems and she became no 1 after Serena hardly kicked her BU TT crashing her with that score at the Aussie Open,...so now sincerely speaking..Do you really think she deserves the world no 1 title after SUCH a defeat ????

Not long
Serena made her look pretty bad. Maria's game is very predictable without much variety.

As long as she looks as good as she does and is as popular as she is right now. She will hold her ranking.
