When you enslave a person you take away their freedom. From that act most of the other evils follow.

Slavery is wrong because it violates basic human rights and needs. If your speech is for a history class focus on ideas that our country is based on and then talk about how slavery violates the rights our founding fathers argued for in the Declaration of Independence. You will see the irony-(the freedom we desired from the British we were not willing to grant to others). Your teacher may appreciate you pointing this out as well.
Hope this helps.
Good luck!

Is anyone in your class giving a pro-slavery speech? Slavery was an intense political issue in the mid-1800s, meaning there were lots of people then making pro-slavery speeches.

Slavery is wrong because one man should never 'own' another, in any sense of the word. People are not commodities; they are human beings. Every man in this world deserves to be here, and each person who is here deserves to be treated with respect and dignity. Slavery happened because somewhere along the line, someone got this insane notion that their own life was more important than someone else's.

It's got nothing to do with human rights. That implies that slavery was all right before the decleration of human rights.
It's wrong because of the inequality. Everybody determines one life and one only. What gives one person the right to dominate or determine two (or more) lives by being the master of another?
Basically the master takes the life away, and so he now has two lives to dominate - his own and that of his slave.
However, you must ask what that man has done to earn two lives, and what the slave has done to loose his.
It turns out that it is just a matter of circumstances. You become a master and determine other people's lives because you are born in one country, and you loose your own life and become a slave because you were born in another.
Your life is given to you at birth. If it's right for you to take another life, then it's equally right for the other person to take yours - so there is an inherent equality here.

are you so sure it is wrong. look at all the starving people in Africa. we don't all send them money . when we do they have more kids even though they have one dying in there arms.
don't you think it would be better to give them some guidance work and help to control them . slaves were well taken care of. given education. remember Africa did not even have written language or math at all . they ate each other
don't just assume slavery is all that bad . it has gone on for a long long time and it goes on now. when its done in the open the slaves are often treated well. we could all most end starvation by giving the starving people pleasant slave jobs and put them on birth control breed them when needed and breed only the healthy ones.
think about it think for yourself and think for the better of man kind not just spew out what the teacher blabs on about .
think about this right now if you have a minumum paying job or even one that pays more then that your boss has no oblgation to provide you with a home of any kind nothing no food no clothes no medical care. and he can fire you at anytime one day you have a job the next you dont have food one month later you are homeless. .
now if your were a slave you had rights . they had toprovide you with food and treat you well. torture of slaves was agaist the laws. they had to treat you as well as the cattle . that ment you had to have a warm place to stay food and no mistreatment.
sure some had to be disaplinded but that happens now.
all in all a slave has it better then a lower end worker . oh and dont think a slave could not advance some were trained then sold to someone for a higher price. in order to keep them from running off they got better treatment better clothes more food and were taught to read and write . even more important they were taught not to eat one another and not to worship false gods.
they were raised as christains.
if we returned to having slaves there would be no more gangs no more rapes gang bangers and the poor would be sure of a home and education suited to there ability.
you work for the man now for less. i suggest you really think about this and dont just say its all bad.
ideal no bad no. better maybe. atleast you would have a roof over your head no more unwanted babies. good breeding would be helped along by the nice slave owners and you might be able to buy a slave yourself. would you prefer to force someone to have a baby to have food or give them work and pride to have food. think about it.

Aside from the idea of someone's life being dedicated to serving another's, slavery is bad for the society as a whole. When you have a slave cooking your meals, cleaning your house, and in some cases even raising your children, you are not living what most people today would consider a respectful life.

Slavery is wrong because it takes away a person's whole reason for being. We are each put on this Earth to explore it our own way, and to determine our own path. We each deserve a chance to decide our own lifestyle, as well as where we want to live and what we want to eat for dinner. We also deserve the right to decide how hard we are willing to work for what we want. I hope this helps.

If you can't answer that you need to do more research, or sit down and think long and hard about what slavery entails to the person being enslaved--lack of freedom, no respect, treatment like cattle, lack of food, shelter, being branded, or even having toes amputated so you can' run away fast, metal bands bolted around your neck or ankle to tie you down; rape by your owners, or their friends, and you can't say no or complain to anyone, you are after all just property---not to mention the dawn to dusk work that may be required in harsh conditions. Then think of yourself in that position and how you would like it.

We are all one. We all have red blood and spend green money. Slavery robs a person of their God given right....to be free and to be treated equally, no matter what the color of their skin. Slavery "dehumanizes" a person to the level of an animal, i,e., they are "owned" by someone else.
