You're talking about the ever popular "N" word. I don't use it but some people I know do. I asked my friend once why he greeted his friends with that word when he would have been angered if a white person had said it. He thought for a moment and said that it is the same as when you hear a girl speaking to a friend and saying "Hey there, B*tch!" You wouldn't think anything of it, right? I said no and he said "Now what if I said it?" I said I would be ticked off. So there you go, that's the best answer I can give you.
I also think that for some it's okay for Blacks to use it because when they say it it's not to be racist or anything but if a White person says it they might misconstrued it for being racist.

Because when a white person calls a black person a "N" they most often mean it in offensive ways and even if they don't the black people feel that they do mean offense. It's the same as if a black person were to call a white person a "cracker" or a hispanic a "wet back".Certain words make a ethnic group feel offended when called it by another ethnic group. When another black person calls a black person a "N" they are kidding, playing, and so forth and even if they mean insult it serves no power becase their both black individals. The same as a white man calling another "honkey".A hispanic man calling another a "wet back".

It's not right...but then it's a rule made up by black people. Since it would be racist to say it isn't right, people let them do it.
That race card is getting worn out! Integration was back in the 60's. After 45 years, most under 50 have been educated in the same schools with the same teachers. Opportunities have been equal with laws that have weighed the scale to the side of the blacks.
Racism is a disease.........spread not by whites, but by blacks.

truth is it really is not. the word is bad for anyone because what it came from, the mentality that created the word. what it used to mean, it still can. the word has been used so much now at this point it has no meaning. however it still came from such negative place in history we should not use it. watch richard pryor live on the sunset strip dvd. his realization he talks about having while in africa makes a lot of sense.

Because we as black people associate the n-word as just a word we use to greet each other like if I say whats up n---a but because blacks went through slavery and segregation the n-word was used negatively towards blacks and that attitude still reflects today when a white person uses the word.

If they're going to jump on white people for using the word, blacks need to start getting fired from jobs or threatened by gang members for using the word.
It'd give them a little more understanding for just what consequences white people go through for using the term.
