Yes... xrated music lyrics have an effect ESPECIALLY on teens. But the real issue here is --it's not the music. It depends upon the teen listening to it.
Early adulthood (teens) is that really difficult stage where most people have identity crisis. There are two sides of the coin, hence there are 2 things that in every teen, could happen: be infected or learn to fight the infection, so to speak.
Teens identify themselves thru the music they listen to, either because of genuine appreciation or especially due to peer pressure. Indeed, peer pressure is high on the list. Most often, teens with self-esteem issues and those who live in broken homes have a fragile foundation of their individuality. They are desperate to belong to certain cliques just to satisfy what we call Maslow's Hierarchy of needs (socialization and self esteem). If profanity is what his group is about, then so would he. These people affect the rest of the environment. And so the vicious cycle of profanity begins. However, with the exact opposite -- having a strong sense of self, brought about by an unwavering foundation, then teens with personality are merely aware of the existence of profanity and choose to be otherwise.
Music, no matter how profane or not, is really not to blame...and so are the song writers. Censorship is definitely NOT the solution, regardless of the level of profanity there is in a song. Despite the great impact of music especially on people's emotions being driven by the lyrics, it implies more of the strength of how these song writers express themselves that people actually listen, rather than that of being the society's flaw. It is THE individual, THE person and THE teen who makes the choice to how he wants to be affected...because his response to his surrounding world defines who he is, or at least who he thinks he is at his age.

I grew up in the 80's and listened to the "evil" heavy metal that people got so worked up over that they actually went so far as to have Senate Hearings about it.
None of us ever felt the need to go and kill ourselves, someone else, sacrifice any animals or hold black masses.
What may have influenced us, and I see it in teens today, is the style of clothes we wore.
Kids want to identify with the artists they like and the easiest is in the way they dress.
I also think that some of us were influenced by the lyrics that made us think about society, the wrongs in the world and our role in it.
I'm not saying that kids do not pick up negative ideas from music, but i think for the most part teens are smart enough to see the "crap" for what it is.

Yes it does - that's why the tapes / cds carry the "Parental Advisory : Explicit Lyrics" warning. Just like violent / explicit movies are rated "R" so are audio tapes and CDs. These are not suitable for individuals below a certain age since it has been proved via research that it does affect the psychology of an underdeveloped mind. If it was not so the government would have made it free for all.

Yes of course, there was a saying a friend told me once. "Thoughts are things and powerful things at that." What this means is the more you have something in your mind the more likely you are to do it. So you better try to keep your mind clean or you will be more likely to make mistakes, especially teens and children are vulnerable and more easily influenced, than a mature adult It is a sad state of this country and much of the world that there are so many x-rated things available to our children. But there are also many more good things more accessible to people, too, and it is up to the parents to monitor what comes in the house. We can't control what happens in the world so much, but we can control what we let in our houses.

I think it does. I'm a 44 -year old adult and I can tell you the lyrics in songs made a difference to me and my gang coming up. Even now I can hear a song that I remember getting high while listening to it and it brought back some funny feelings to me. That's how songs make a tremendous impact on people, you hear people say Well that's Our Song, well me and my guy of 27 years now have our certain songs. Especially the ones we made love to. Let me tell you music impacts the world and especially young people. Walk this Way and songs by Axle Rose were the closest we came to x-rated and that made us think baby-doll.

Well, I think that it dose. I think that the type of music you listen to affects your mood, but I think most people listen to the type of music they listen to because of the mood that they are in.
for instance, when I am sad, I listen to something slow and sad, and when I feel like a party animal, I listen to something up beat. If you are a teenager with raging hormones well then you might find yourself listen to music with sexual lyrics.
So yes I would say that the music does have an effect on teenagers, as to what kind, I would have to do a long term study.

yes.
i mean think about it. there has got to be a reason that there are little 13 year olds getting pregnant. and I think that part of it is the music going on into detail about intricate sexual positions and maneuvers. i mean, i wouldnt even dream of going out and having "one night stands" and things as such. sex is an intimate bonding experiance that is ment to be between two people who truely love each other, and not between some random joe off the street with 3 stds. so yes, i do believe that the music people listen to influences their sexual behavior.

Music alone has an effect on ANYONE. Music is the only thing that can be played into both sides of your brain. So when u listen to music that talks about nothing good for example sex, violence and drugs...... sex, violence and drugs go directly into your conscious and subconscious without your permission. And when u listen to it often, it can change your mind set.
