Disco was popular in the 70's and 80's. Watch Saturday Nite Fever with John Travolta. There was a style of dress, dances , such as the hussle and the music was dance music done by artists such as the Bee Gees and Donna Summer. Discoteques were clubs where you went to dance and meet people.

Disco is just an abbreviation for the word discoteque...(discotech)
a dance club of the 70's.....
