I generally recommend Dell computers. They have great products and better than average prices if you get a coupon.

For your needs, I would recommend a Dell e1505. You can get 20% off from http://www.24houredeals.com/Dell-coupons-23-mer.html

Good luck.

Most any decent laptop will do those, look for 1 mb ram though or more. Also decide how portable you want it, most laptops are getting bigger, if you will be carrying it a lot go for a smaller screen, I have a 10.5 which is great for travel. But recently bought a couple of 13 inchers which are nice as well, and have burners.

Here's a cool decision site that I've used for other electronics and it includes notebook computers: http://www.myproductadvisor.com/mpa/home.do

You enter info about how you're going to use the equipment and other info like price range, etc. and it gives you a list of brands and models which fit your needs best.

Consumer Reports did a review article last September -- you should be able to find it at the library. It's available in updated form online at http://www.consumerreports.org/cro/electronics-computers/laptop-desktop-computers/laptop_desktop_sub/index.htm
-- but that may be in the section restricted to subscribers (can't hurt to try it, though).

Finally, PC World online has an extensive buying guide and up to date reviews at
