I'm trying to set up a freshwater tank for tropical fish and I purchased a 40 gallon breeder tank.I would like a nice wood stand with a canopy but I'm having trouble finding one.Is this size tank a bad choice?This will be my first aquarium.

It's an excellent tank size and shape in my opinion. If you can't find a store that will order you a stand check the yellow pages for a cabinet shop or wood worker near you. No doubt they can make you a nice stand.

Pet Stores can and will even order you a stand for your tank.Check your yellow pages in your phone book to find your pet shops. Sometimes People make them out of their homes for sale.
You may even want to contact shops that sell picnic tables,swings. This type of store may can help you find one or have some helpful information on where to buy a wooden stand.
