Several muscles of the shoulder connect to the cervical spine or neck and if they are in spasm, they can cause headaches. Light stretching of those muscles can help by tilting the head away from the sore side. If it does not resolve within 7 days, a referral to rehabilitation with an athletic trainer or physical therapist can help.

i strained a muscle in my back and it caused tension on a nerve in my back which caused headaches. i had to do PT to help strengthen the muscles around that area of my back/neck to take the tension off the nerve. hope this helps!
