Bist du bei mir

Bist du bei mir, If you are with me in English, (BWV 508) is an aria by the German composer Gottfried Heinrich Stölzel. The piece is often mistakenly attributed to Johann Sebastian Bach due to its inclusion in the Notebook for Anna Magdalena Bach.

A moving version of the song was performed on the soundtrack of the film Joyeux Noel by Natalie Dessay and Rolando Villazon

1 omitted by Stölzel.
Note: the misattribution to Bach is probably due to his including the song in his Anna Magdalena Songbook.

If you are with me, then I will gladly go
to [my] death and to my rest.

English:
If you are near I will be joyful
To greet my rest with peacefulness,
To greet my rest with peacefulness.

Ah, sweetest joy here at my ending,
With loving hands now close mine eyes,
With loving hands now close mine eyes.
