I always thought that Jeez was a shorter version of Jesus ... but I spell it Geez ... I guess it just looks better.

I've seen it 'Geez' more, but I think it's really 'Jeez', as it's an abbreviation of the swear 'Jesus'. Changing the 'J' to 'G' helps us to not associate it so much.
