Check out the web site for The Stuttering Foundation at www.stutteringhelp.org as they have a world of information on their site. Their book, Self Therapy for the Stutterer, is available at some libraries and can also be purchases online in their estore. Several of my uncles and cousins used that book and overcame their stuttering with practice. One uncle told me that he has read it over and over ever since he bought it and has found that he understands something better every time he reads it. He takes it slow and goes one step at a time. I hope it helps you, too.

I don't know that you can overcome it on your own, but if you write down and practice answering common questions, they will start to come out more readily. Like if you are going to see someone tomorrow who is likely to ask how your Aunt Hilda is doing, write down, "she's doing much better now. Since her knee surgery she's been feeling fine and walking short distances on her own." Then memorize your answer so you'll feel more confident in saying it, and won't have to stop to think about it.

I'm a stutterer as well. If you can't get help from a speech therapist, you should read: Self-Therapy for the Stutterer, by Malcolm Fraser. It offered some really helpful strategies to help me with my stuttering.

I'd really suggest you contact a speech professional. If you are in school, perhaps check with the nurse or the counseling department.

Imagine yourself saying the words before you say them.
