Where did music come from in human evolution?

i'm pretty sure it had something to do with memorizing stories from a long time ago, before we knew how to write things down. back in the day the history of a culture was passed down to the next generations through oral storytelling, having a rhythem makes it easier to remember. it might also have something to do with our math skills and being able to identify patterns in sound which in turn makes music.
