I have belonged to Texas State Teachers Association for many years. Even though it is associated with NEA and I don't always agree with their ideas. It is unfortunate that all Texas teachers cannot belong to a unified organization. I think the important thing is to belong to one of them so that we can make our voice heard in Austin. It is also important to have the protection of your organization in the event of litigation. TSTA meets my needs the best. The dues are higher than the others, but you get what you pay for. I just have them deduct it monthly from my paycheck.

Tell Ryah B that Texas does not have teacher unions. Teachers are not allowed to strike. It is against the state law.

I am a member of Texas Classroom Teachers Association (TCTA). I am only a member for the legal support that they offer. (I have a student with a notorious reputation for his parents being suit happy!) I don't recommend any. I don't believe that a membership to a union is an answer to any problem. Speak up when you have an issue and know your rights and you won't have a problem. When you are following your school district's policies they are supposed to support you in a lawsuit against you regarding their policies, but if you have a student like I do, the parent likes to sue a personal liability/ discrimination/ and emotional damages suit then the back up relieves that headache.

I belonged to TSTA at one point but I am a hard core fan of NEA. I'm in Missouri where NEA is majority, it's not as popular in Texas. Also, it can be quite expensive to be a part of so many "union" type organization. I'd say you have a good list there.

I hope you aren't talking about a union. If you are, I'm sure they will be assaulting you soon enough w/their socialist drivel. Happy indoctrination.
