Ed Reed is the better safety, but it's only because Brian Dawkins is past his prime. Ed Reed has a lot of problems with his pass defense game. He was caught out of position a lot and cost big plays. He is over-hyped.

Dawkins continues to be good yet he's growing to be previous. yet in his best he replaced into between the terrific at tackling in the open-field. He replaced into disciplined and hardly neglected a handle. Reed is extra acceptable in insurance in spite of the undeniable fact that Dawkins replaced into no longer undesirable the two. Dawkins is extra acceptable against the frenzy than Reed. They the two hit no longer ordinary yet I provide the sting to Dawkins. Reed is via some distance a extra acceptable playmaker. At any factor he can turn an INT or a fumble restoration into a standard 6. It hurts me to assert it because of the fact they're my 2 fashionable safeties yet Reed gained protective participant of the 300 and sixty 5 days in '04 and Dawkins under no circumstances gained the award so i'd could say Reed is the extra acceptable protection.

Dawkins is past his prime, but still the 2nd best saftey (of FS/SS) in the NFL.
The best IMO is Ed Reed, who's not even 1/2way through his career. Even against BD in his prime, I still would take Ed Reed. He can lay decent enough hits, is a total ball-hawk, and even has blocked a handful of punts in his career so far (Dawkins, though is a better coverer than most realize, is still known mainly for his big-hitting/run support).

That is really a tough one even though Brian Dawkins is past his Prime I'd still have to take him, he is one of the best safeties I have ever seen (and I watch them closely since I used to play saftey). He can do it all cover WRs and TE's, Hit Big players (hard), Stuff the Run, catch, and he is a leader.
Ed is not far behind, I just am biased because he plays behind pro bowl players like Ray Lewis, Terrell Suggs, Chris Mcalister and A. Thomas.
