I like using adhesive in place of nails. What you can do there is put a bead onto the studs and along top and bottom. Then take 2x4 s and tack nail them top and bottom at the studs, then place a few shims at thecenter to hold the drywall onto studs for a few minutes, move along and do same to next sheet. When you are done, you will have a level job and no nail holes to go filling only tape along the vertical joints and drywall mudd there.

Hire a professional. I have been to many jobs were homeowners thought they could finish drywall on their own, only to find out they could not. And after the mess they made I charged more than I would have if they hadn't done anything.

You will need a mud pan 6 inch 8 inch and 12 inch sheetrock knife's
make sure all your screws are embedded slightly
when you mud the tape put a nice layer of mud on first then place tape and squeegie the excess
make it as smooth but not spending alot of time on it
come back next day hand sand it smooth any rough spots have to go
this layer of mud need to be put on with a 8 inch blade with this batch of sheetrock mud add water and a couple of drops of liquid soap , you want the mud to be a thick smooth cake icing texture.
repeat same strokes as the day before, make it smooth or close to smooth
third day mix compound with a bit more than yestrday water using a 12 inch blade or sheetrock knife start at half of the joint then the middle of the joint then the third pull of mud need to be the lower half this is your finish coat smooth nicely
come back and sand it smooth and paint
