Did you put in a relocation to another state clause? We always make sure there was cause we were in the military. As long as we were moving over 100 miles from the area we could break the rental contract. Re-read the contract if you are in an area where your apartment is a premium item and you can find someone that wants your place your manager might work a deal with you.
Is it a real lease, did you promise to stay a year? Or was it just a rental agreement which means you will pay X amount of dollars each month and has no minimum stay time.

Weigh the drawbacks(penalties) of breaking the lease and how long it will take you to recover your loss with you husband's new pay increase (i'm assuming), and finishing out your lease and commuting back and forth on weekends/days off until the lease is over. If possible find a friend that will move into your current place and rent it out for the remaining term.
Have your husband ask for a moving allowance or some monetary compensation to help with the cost of breaking the lease.

You can talk really nicely with the landlord but s/he is not obligated to release you. If you are released BE SURE that you get it in writing from the landlord that they have permitted you to leave without fulfilling your total lease--otherwise you could find a judgement on your credit report.
Plus you can mention to your husband's personnel dept that you need X amount of money to cancel your lease to see if they will assist in doing so.

Some companies will buy an employees house to facilitate a relocation. Dealing with a lease should be easy for them.
