firstly, most people i know have a few beers at night after work.
i don't think your a alcoholic, but if you feel you may have a drinking problem then you are right to seek advice from the doctors, well done for wanting to sort it out.
regarding sleeping, well i would say try some over the counter sleeping pills, but if it's alcohol your drinking, i don't think it will be a good idea.
Have you thought the alcohol could be why you can't sleep, you are aware you haven't had a drink and thats why your tossing about so much in your bed.
have you tried going to bed early, reading for a hour or so or watching tv in bed, that way your relaxed at least?
hope the doc sorts you out!

You are showing classic stress symptoms, and if your doctor doesn't help, with not only meds, but advice too, I would be very surprised in deed!
The down side is that stress is not easy to beat, even once you have identified the cause (as you have, it's the job!), because, once you get in to a set pattern, it's like a bad habit.
Tell your boss you need to work a 40 hour week and stick to it. Time off means just that time off, ignore calls from work on your days off. Nobody is that indispensable, or else it's not your bosses firm but yours!
En-role in a gym, exercise is a brilliant stress buster, and after a good work out, you may find you don't need one of those beers to help you get to sleep.
Look at your diet, try to make sure it is as healthy as you can bare.
And finally, don't worry too much about the use of the beer to get to sleep, worry more about the not being able to turn off at night, that is the real symptom that needs to be addressed.

The doc will probably tell you that your stressed out. Dont stop drinking, just cut back. Lay off the coffee after 2200hrs. I find that reading a book in low light conditions helps me to get tired but someone will probably say that this is bad for your eyes!
I also work many hours on a variable shift pattern so I know where you are coming from. Remember that stress can lead to other mental and physical problems and it needs you to recognise it quikly. Take some time out from work.
REMEMBER...We work to live not live to work!

Go get help from the doctor! You could have a few illnesses e.g. stress, depression, insomnia and alcohol/work addiction.
Maybe you need to look at what matters in life to you? Hopefully, you will come to the conclusion that all work and no play is no good! If you had good friends you would be speaking to them about your concerns - maybe you work too hard! I am saying a prayer for you right now that you get the help you need and find happiness. Love x x

Hi there Karl P, I wont shout alcoholic at you! I think that, because of your stressful job, you find it difficult to unwind and relax. I am sure that your doctor will be able to help you and find an alternative to drink. Please try to keep off of the drink, it is a slippery slope that will only serve to ruin your quality of life. Have you thought about changing your job? It sounds like it is not doing your health any good. I wish you all the best! :o)

yeah he'll help you. but . he might sign you off work due to stress. i know because a guy i know was the same, i was real worried about him...but he sorted himself out during his time off and he applied for a new position at work and hes really happy now. hopefully now hes cut down on the drink his health will improve and his confidence is already starting to lift...and maybe just maybe we will be able to get together and make a go of things. good luck hunny, its the first step realising you're in need of help.

There should be no reason you can't see a doctor. There are free clinics all over the place. The best thing to do until you do see one is to keep busy, do things that you like to do or used to like to do. I suffer from severe depression and know what your going through though I do have medication. Even with that I have to work to help the pills work! Get a new hobby or even new friends. Make changes in bedroom that would cheer you up and keep you busy at the same time. Paint or wallpaper in a bright color, put flower stickers on bureaus and doors. Read a funny book and watch funny movies. Try not to listen to to much music because that could be very depressing. Keep a journal and make lists of things that you want to do every day and check them off as you do them but don't try to do too many things in one day or you will be overwhelmed. Good Luck and try to get to a doctor.
