Sorry to state the obvious, but just send them a covering letter with a CV and see if they have any jobs available. It may be that they have no vacancies at the moment, but keep your fingers crossed. Most fire services have certain recruitment days, where you can go along and apply, but sending in a CV won't do any harm! Highlight your military background, how healthy you are etc. GCSE's are fine, although you don't need any academic qualifications to apply.

Yeah, and I don't know if this still applies, but when I wanted to apply I was told I had to have 20/20 vision, and I don't! But it may have changed, or the rules may be different in different parts of the UK. Good luck.

And try this website, it had a lot of good information on it although I haven't been on it for a while.

Unfortunately if you are a strong healthy white male, you have no chance. The Fire Brigade has become very politically correct and is only recruiting from ethnic minorities, women and disabled.
My advice is to send in two applications, one in your name with all your details and another in, say a female Asian name. If she gets the interview and not you, you have very good grounds to sue for sex and race discrimination. The beauty of it is, that THEY have to prove they are not discriminating!
You sound an ideal candidate but the FB would rather people died in fires because the staff they employ are simply not fit for purpose.
