My family was Union and I would choose Union today because I don't believe in racism, slavery and sexism against women.

confederate I hope (dont know) and confederate again because they stood for having their own country!! You should read up on how things really went the things Abe said. He said he would sack anything to preserve the union including slaves. He also sent letter to all the governors saying the same. The guy is fradulently built up by history!!! He was all about telling the south how to do alot of things that had nothing to do with slavery!! Obviously its the same as in all wars money was the cause. Just like the Middle East!

My family was Union since they lived in MA, NH and VT for about 270 years until my great grandfather moved down to CT in the late 1890s. Then I made the big move south to NYC 10 years ago. I can't even imagine living any further south than this.

Having nothing to do with racism or anything like that, I'd choose Union since New England is were my family has all it's history and the Northeast is all I've ever known.

(my moms side of the family didn't come over from Eastern Europe until the early 1880s but they still settled in CT and MA)

I have ancestors who were on both sides. My grandmother's grandfather - I suppose that's my great great grandfather was on the Union side. My grandfather's family was on the Confederate side.

If I had to choose today, I'd go with the Union. If the Confederacy had won the Civil War and become a country, it would likely be like Haiti or Guatemala, i.e., one of the poorest in the hemisphere. We in the South still trail behind the northern states in almost all of the measures of quality of life.

My family was confederate. But today I would have to say that preserving the union would be my choice.
Stop and think about it, if the south had won its independence we would more than likely be living in a third world country.

1) don't know
2) Confederate

I would choose to be on the Confederate side because I think it would be interesting to see what would happen and what life would be like if the South really did secede.

Union. The civil war wasn't just about slaves. I believe it was more about the union telling everybody what to do. The south didn't like that. If it wasn't for all the resources the north had, they would of lost. I would of picked the south for that reason.

Actually, my family escaped to Mexico (Modern Utah, California, Nevada, Arizona, etc.) prior to the Civil War. If they did fight, I suppose they would have been Union. But a lot of them were recent immigrants and probably would have stayed aloof at the time anyway.

I would probably have supported whichever side I was raised in if I were alive at the time. But I guess I'd go with Union.

All of my ancestors were still in Europe, so neither.
I would pick Union.
However, that's considering I already know how everything turned out. If I had been a southerner, my opinion might have been very different. It really would have to depend on what sort of situation I was living in. With all of our knowledge of it today, it's really not the same as "picking sides" back then.
