Ive asked several of my friends and family this question and all I get is a million different answers.Everywhere from a bad spark plug to a bad head gasket.I should just take it too a shop but thats what I did last time when my fan belt broke and when I got it back it had this problem. When I start it up it doesn't smoke or anything it just lags behind when you drive it.

Take the spark plugs out. Look at them to see if each plugs electrode is about the same color. A darker plug indicates poor combustion. While the plugs are out do a compression check.
Do a second compression check after squirting oil into the cylinder, this is called a wet compression test.
If a low reading cylinder increases it indicates worn rings. If you still have a low cylinder it would mean a burned or out of adjustment valve.
Check your ignition wires also.
