I gave birth 9 days ago, and the dr didn't think he'd have to cut me until the very end, and he said he was going to have to make a very small incision. I was under the impression that it wasn't very bad, because it didn't take long at all for him to sew me up and I had more pain from the pressure feeling in my bottom than anything else. Anyway, today, I've seen THREE stitches on my toilet paper! I'm not wiping, I'm using the spray bottle and then just patting dry. So, by dissolve I thought they meant they would disappear... but is this what is supposed to happen? Are you supposed to be able to see them when they come out? The only thing I can think of is that I've been itchy with a burning sensation down there for the past few days, so I've been squirming around a little bit to avoid stratching. I've also had several bowel movements, but all soft - nothing I would think would rip them out. Also, I looked down there with a mirror, and it looks as if part of it might be open!!

Fear not, you will be fine. I had HUGE issues with my stitches. They hurt really bad and when I looked with a mirror, there was a gap with threads across it. I freaked......but when I talked to my doc (and saw her at an appt that day) she assured me I would be fine. She said that stitches were just to help the healing, and the wound would close even without them (I tore, I did not get cut....my otherwise tiny baby had a HUGE head). She told me that I was not resting enough and was doing ot much. she wrote me a prescription that said "take it easy" but no surgery or anything was needed. They usually do not restitch.

I had stiches and they dissolve but they leave the skin kind of raw and sensitive. They do burn and they do itch unfortunaltely but they are healing. You may need to rest and take it easy. Tuck's pads, the have witch hazel which is a natural antiseptic is okay to put on them. I wouldn't tell you this if the hospitol didn't give them to me (make sure that they only have witch hazel in them). That little spray bottle is your friend keep using it. Of course I am not a doc and i would still call just to be safe, you're a mommy now and that means you can't afford to be sick or ill! Good luck it does get better.

I think mayb you should call your emergency after hours dr... do you have one? If not, maybe take a trip to your local ER, I don't mean to alarm you, it could be nothing. But, I know that my stitches actually DISSOLVED, they didn't come out like yours, and I think it took them about 2 weeks or so to dissolve, not 9 days. Also,by you saying that it looks like it could be coming open, you are asking for an infection, which could prove painful and uncomftorable. I honestly think you should go to the ER and see what they say. They may just restitch it, but an open wound is a known infection site, so please, take care of it before that happens. Good Luck, please let us know what happened and that you're okay. And, CONGRATS on your new baby!!!!!

I had "dissolving"stitches in my mouth when I had my wisdom teeth out. The stitches didn't dissove into nothing, they just came away from the wound (which was still quite raw,) but the dentist said the stitches had done their job and thats why they had come away. SOunds similar to what has happened to you. Good luck with your new baby and stay gentle down there!

i don't think you are ment to see them. i had stitches and mine, from what i can gather, dissolved. i too was a itchy and the midwife told me to buy a product called "ural" which is a sachet of powder that nautralises the ph of your urine and stops stinging which can cause the itch (itch can also be the wound healing). i'd ring your gp or hospital and just ask. i know that you can still heal perfectly fine without stitches if torn/cut.

Thats how it happened for me. They looked like very small pieces of dental floss in shape. They will continue to come out for a while...
