Many things could make computer slow. slow processor, not enough ram, bad tracks on hard drive or hard drive is full need s to remove all junks. too many programs running at the same time you do not need them except when you use them so they are running and using ram. might be virus or ad ware.and the list goes on.

Well with Windows 2000 and Windows XP you can attempt to update the drivers and possibly get a speed increase on it. And when I say drivers I don't mean just the Video Card or Soundcard. The speed of the machine is relative to the Core Chipset and if you don't have the right drivers installed then you generally will have a horrible time as usually nothing will be running at it's optimal configuration. The largest problem I encounter with PC's when repairing them that slow them down the worst are first Start-up programs (things that start-up when the PC does) as well as Processes running in the background which can include virii as well as adware and spyware. To combat this situation do the following. Run a good virus check (use Avast it's great and 100% free) and then after that you can go to the Start button and choose run. Then in the box type msconfig and hit enter and you'll see everything that starts up when the machine does as well as some very important options. Be careful though as changing some of the settings can cause your machine to stop working all together. Just stick to the start-up programs spot. Most things you don't use normally will be ok to shut off. Also checking to make sure the Hard Drive isn't full is a good thing since Windows uses alot of Virtual Memory to operate. And after all else fails reinstall Windows on the machine as sometimes it's the only course of action when you have so many pieces of software installed that the machine literally takes minutes to boot up. Remember the more fonts you have install the longer it takes to boot and load.

Tell them to defragment. Spyware scans. Disc cleanup works well.
