It seems a lot of these math and science questions are students trying to get us to do their homework for them, and that seems to be a bad result of Y!A's. Don't you think it would be better if these students had to do their own homework?

I totally agree with you! They are not learning if they want people on Y A telling them the answers. When I was a kid I had to learn the hard way, the right way.

Although some children have the cheek to post their whole worksheet up here and then go out and play, come back and copy all the answers, not everyone does that.

Some people genuinely want the explanations for the questions and they aren't able to get in touch with their teacher because it's the weekend etc. They might not be able to continue with the rest of the sums till they clear a particular misconception.

It's true that generations of children have gotten by with their homework without such technology and convenience, but since it's here now, those that genuinely need help might as well ask.

As for those who simply don't want to do their homework, eventually they'll realize that there's only so much they can copy off the net. When it comes to tests/ exams, their all on their own. They'll face the music.

Plus, a lot of schools are very aware of the fact that such forums exist. The smarter ones might go and do a search just to get an idea of whether their students are ripping answers off the net- even then, they can't trace the pupils.

Last year, I had a graded science project and some weirdo's had the cheek to put the question up here asking for steps to solve the main problem--> A vast majority of my school spends many hours on the computer, and hence, in no time at all, many discovered these questions on Y! Answers. They weren't able to trace those folks, but everyone had a good laugh because the answers provided here were all 100% wrong!

Frankly, there's no way to tell whether the stuff people are providing you with is correct or wrong. Many just want their 10 points when they answer.

I think it's a good thing. Sometimes so much just gets stuffed into a head that there is no way to unravel it all. And as for the Sunday night crammers, some really do have enough homework to last until Sunday night. I remember my grade 11 year I took U level English, Chemistry, Physics and Computer Engineering first semester. I NEVER stopped doing homework. I think this is a great place to help students when they've gone beyond levels that their parents can assist them with. I fought tooth and nail to get through my quadratics and calculus courses. Sometimes all I needed was a quick explanation from the teacher to unravel what went wrong in my equation. I think this offers the same assistance. Yes, some will attempt to abuse the site, but I do feel it does help many.

Yes, they should do their own work, but notice that a lot of the answers are wrong or at least do not match. The students still have to figure out which process works the best.

Besides, they usually only post one or two questions at a time. Even if their parents helped them with their homework they would get at least one problem worked out for them.

I think this is one of the best ideas for Yahoo Answers (so long as they don't post every last question on their take-home test).

Yes I also think it is distubing for students to ask Yahoo for Math and Science Question Answers. They should do their own homework. If they dont get it, they should as a parent, bro, sis, or stay after school or something like that.

I have seen students asking for complete answers to their homework, but most just want help on a specific portion that they do not understand or can not find sufficient resources for. Yahoo! Answers is a great resource for students who need some clarification on a homework problem or concept. If you feel that a student is asking you to do his homework for him, then don't answer and let the little bugger fend for himself. But do try to be helpful to those poor souls crying out for help amidst the sea of confusion and frustration that seems to manifest from the enormous pile of homework that is toppled upon students these days. :)

Yes, that actually bugs me and I usually avoid answering where the wording clearly indicates a textbook problem. Sometimes you can even see them in a row on the question list, as though the questioner just went down their homework or problem set and just typed it all in. I'm glad to hear I'm not the only one disturbed by it. At the very least I wish they'd keep it in homework help.

I always do my own homework and I've only posted one homework question on Y!A because I simply couldn't figure it out. I had been trying to research and find the answer, but I was getting even more confused.

It's a good back-up plan for people who use it right. However, you are right that most people abuse it. Don't judge everyone, though!

I don't think students should be asking questions that can be answered by common sense. I've seen someone asking about the square of a number, when he/she could've just punched in the numbers on a calculator. But if students are asking discussion questions to gain more insight on a topic, or to get other views on controversial topics, I think it's fine to use Y!As.

I never used Yahoo! Answers for Homewok Help. I'm usually answering the questions. Although it seems wrong that many students use this service for Homework, its good that if they don't know something and they really need help they can turn here. I think it's wrong when they use it for cheating.

Yes I think it's a good idea, but on the contrary some of us also

stand to gaitn when we answer these questions, since it helps to

sharpen our minds over long-forgotten topics we learnt years

back and makes us see if we are still as smart as we used to be

'a looonnnnngggg time ago' lol

Other than that, I think the students are becoming too lazy to

even think for themselves when it comes to assignments and

they will flank their exams when they are given these same

questions and they can't answer them because someone

thought for them the first time they had to answer those.
