Rebel or Rebel Jr. is the best, slow grower, less mowing...but all lawn varieties need some sun.

You will work yourself to death trying to keep nice grass in shade.
Try a groundcover instead. There are many shade loving varieties.

Contact your local Cooperative Extentiion at the Univ. The Master Gardeners there will give you free help.

If your in california go to any wholesale irrigation supplier and ask if they carry Pacific Shade. It is made (i think) by Pacific coast seed in Sacremento, ca. It comes in 5lbs, 25lbs,and 50lbs. About 10lbs per 500sf. hope this helps you out
