I agree that you are very lucky it is still running. Are you familiar with hardware at all? Before I took it in somewhere I would open the bay that holds the hard drive and make sure that is firmly in place. Hardrives are held in by prongs and depending how well it is installed this connection may have popped slightly out.
This is one of many hardware items that might have been jarred loose, but it's the one you can easily correct yourself. If you don't know how to do this I'd see if any of your friends know. You already got lucky that it still works so maybe you'll be lucky and this will be it.
And if you want to check hard drive integrity you can web search this...there are several software programs that do that, so why pay someone to test it. I'd fine one that has a free trial and check it out.
Best of luck with it!

You dropped it. It could be that you damaged the harddrive, which is not good. At all. You're really lucky that it still turns on. Try running a disk check and defrag. Bring it to your nearest CPU repair store, they'll tell you if the harddrive is broken or whatever has gone on. You will probably need a new harddrive.

It's a hardware issue. Be happy its running at all, most laptops when they're dropped they are flat out dead.
With a laptop there are few user-servicable parts, so you should take it to a repair shop to get it fixed.

Odds are 10 to 1 that it is the hard drive. BACK UP your documents, pictures, music, etc. and replace your hard drive.
